surprise!

Got a major surprise last night. The teacher from the Chinese cultural office at PCHS called me last night regarding a 6-month scholarship to study Chinese in 雲南. The scholarship is sponsored by the Chinese government. It includes everything, from tuition to lodging, I just have to pay for the airfare. On top of that, I get RMB800 every month for food expenses(Will I be spending that much?haha). It's a pretty good offer. However, dad doesn't want me to go, because he's not sure if the place is as developed or modern as Shanghai or Beijing.

I really, really want to go!!!

I've been yearning for escape for years...and this is such a great opportunity! Coz my parents won't have to spend for it.That way, they don't really have anything to complain about.

They have to come up with a real good reason if they don't want me to go on this one. For Canada, its too far...so they can't use that here, coz 雲南is in Southern China, and pretty near the Philippines. Shobe's friends dad said that the place is really beautiful, that its a city(as in, not a probinsya-type place), so they can't use that as a reason too.

Well, we'll have to see how creative they get, and how I counter their reasons. (Here's where FOLOGIC comes to use.hahaha)

shopping

You know how sometimes you go into a shop wanting to buy something and ending up buying something else when that something you wanted to buy isn't available? That's exactly what happens to me every time I go into Powerbooks. hahaha I was supposed to get a copy of the GMAT reviewer by Kaplan, but I ended up buying 2 other books, coz they were out of stock. I bought Buddha in Your Backpack and this math trivia book for Candee.

I went to 2 Powerbooks, and 1 National Bookstore yesterday, and all of them were sold out on the GMAT reviewer, the one by Kaplan that is . Gosh! A lot of people must be taking the GMAT these days, where having a BS degree is not enough to make it big in the business world.

routines

For the past few weeks, this has been my life, wake up, eat breakfast, get ready for work, leave for work, work, eat lunch, work(or do something esle when there are no projects), come home, eat dinner, read the newspaper, watch TV, do the dishes, do the laundry, then sleep, then repeat the cycle. It's too routine. haha Pretty much have nothing to do on the weekends, except watch TV, read a book or something. Been wanting to take up baking. But classes are soooooo expensive and some are just too far, and Dad still won't let me drive. I have to take more lessons pa daw. hehe I don't blame him actually, after what happened to Koko's car. But then the weathers been crazy so now, I'm like trying to learn Korean over the net. Trying to learn the alphabet now. ALthough, am still confused with the vowels. They all resemble each other.

Gosh! I really need to get out more...and get a life. haha That's the main reason why I want to go abroad and live by myself for a while. I'd practically be forced to go out since I won't have anybody to talk to there. While here, I can talk to my parents, or my sister anytime...

nothing much...

Went to Sheryll and Elson's wedding reception at the Manila Hotel last Saturday night. Had a great time. The wedding reception was real nice...loved the AVP they showed. And it was fun catching up with the BLIA peeps. Funny thing, when it was time to catch the bouquet/garter thing...and the wedding organizer came to our table asking who was single. We were all like pointing at each other..haha No one joined in the end. Remember when I was still younger and we were automatically exempted from that. hehe

Then Sunday, we had lunch at Golden Fortune with Mom's side of the family and went shopping in Glorietta. Went in to Face Shop. First time to go in...Used to think that the stuff they sell there are real expensive. Surprised that their goods are relatively reasonably priced.

Monday till now, we've had a lot of projects..ok, maybe not a lot, but pretty long projects.hehe

____
Watched The Holiday and Because I Said So. Great movies! Both were extremely touching, getting me teary-eyed in some parts. I could totally relate to what Millie was going through, with her overbearing mom. Enough said.

Oh, and we are now down to the last episode of Hana Yori Dango Returns. Can't wait to watch it. I really want to know if it's going to be a happy ending or a sad one. ALthough I feel that the whole series(for the second season) is too short with only 11 episodes total.

Christina Aguilera-Save Me From Myself

listening to Christina Aguilera's Back to Basics album...
current favorite song is this one.

Title: Save Me From Myself

It’s not so easy
Lovin’ me
It gets so complicated
All the things you gotta be
Everything’s changin’
But you’re the truth
I’m amazed by all your patience
Everything I put you through

And when I’m about to fall
Somehow you’re always waiting with
Your open arms to catch me
You’re gonna save me from myself
From myself (yes)
You’re gonna save me from myself

My love is tainted
By your touch
Well some guys have shown me aces
But you’ve got that royal flush
I know its crazy everyday
Well tomorrow may be shaky
But you never turn away

And don’t ask me why I’m cryin’
Cause when I start to crumble
You know how to keep me smilin’
You always save me from myself
From myself, myself
You’re gonna save me from myself

I know it’s hard, it’s hard
But you’ve broken all my walls
You’ve been my strength
So strong

And don’t ask me why I love you
It’s obvious your tenderness is what I need to make me
A better woman to myself
To myself, myself
You’re gonna save me from my
Myself

time out

taking some time off before a new project comes in..

yesterday, my shobe joined a Chinese singing contest. It's the one sponsored by Moldex. It's been held for several weeks in a row now. She's passed the first 3 roudns and yesterday, the finals were held at PICC. She didn't win though. Daniel was there and other of the veterans of Chinese singing contests as well. Actually, I expected either Daniel or Catherine to get the first prize of 75K, but Catherine got it. And surprise, surprise Daniel didn't get anything. The 4th and 5th place winners were not, as in WERE NOT, at all good. If I were the judge, I'd like put Daniel first, Catherine second, Sherine,3rd and the 2 guys that won 2d and 3rd place, 4th and 5th place respectively.(Sorry, don't know your names)

you know, how I've been longing for excape for years now? I honestly think that I need it more than ever. I just feel that somehow am trapped in my own home. Sometimes, I don't even want to go home anymore. Pressure is just too high. I always try to make the best out of things and smile and say that everything is fine. But really, they aren't. I'm under a lot of pressure. SOmehow, everything I do is out of a sense of responsibility. I just want to be free of all the pressure and go some where I can be myself, and live a life not dictated by what my parents want. They influence my every decision. I honestly have this feeling that if I stay here longer, the harder it will be for them to loosen their grasp. Just want a taste of freedom, is that so hard to give?

Hana Yori Dango VS Meteor Garden

I've been watching Hana Yori Dango recently. It's so cute! Great soundtrack as well. Sounds really make a series(or movie or any show for the matter) better. It allows viewers to feel the emotion of the lead character.

Anyway, here are reasons why I like the Japanese version better than the Taiwanese version:
1) The girl who played Makino Tsukushi is so cute. Da S is kinda too mature for the role.
2) Great soundtrack..Already explained at the start of the entry.
3) Great direction and cinematography. I love how they shot the whole series. It seems more appealing.
4) Acting is not that dramatic. And the acting seems more real. YOu really feel the emotions that the character is feeling. The Taiwan versions acting is more stoic and boring.
5)Japanese dramas are shorter so it's less dragging compared to the Taiwan version.

Each has it own good parts so I can't really complain about them. But if I were to choose, would definitely go for the Japanese version. Kawaii ne!

25 clues you're in love...

Got this off http://www.luckylily.com/love-and-intimacy/25-clues-to-know-youre-really-in-love/

hehe

Still confused about your feelings? Can’t sleep at night, thinking about him but you still can’t find why. Are you really in love or just a little crush? Falling in love is one of life’s greatest events. But ironically, you often don’t know that it’s happen until it’s too late. You’re afraid to know that what you feel inside is love – afraid to disgorge it to him – and afraid you’re going to be rejected by him. But why you have to deny your own feelings and let yourself feel the painful tightness around your chest. You felt sick when he flirts with another woman, and you wonder why your heart beat very, very fast: Your heart was broken: Only then you realize that somewhere, at sometime, you fell in love with him without knowing it. Did you ever felt this feeling before?
But why wait for a broken heart? Act before it’s too late. Being in love is something too beautiful to be ignorant about. Don’t let your love elapse by times, grab it when there’s still an opportunity, maybe he’s the one to live with you forever. Here are some clues to see if you’ve been struck by Cupid’s arrow!
“It’s so easy, To think about Love, To Talk about Love, To wish for Love, But it’s not always easy, To recognize Love, Even when we hold it…. In our hands.”–Jaka–
LOVE #1 You become alert to his favorites
His favorite’s singer to his favorite’s football player all keeps in your mind. When he says he really crazy about that singer, without thinking about other things you buy all the CD’s collection for him. You’re trying to listen to his songs even though you never like it. Even you never watch football match, you watch his favorites football team with hope one day you can share the same interest with him. At least you know a bit about the game rather than don’t know anything, right?
LOVE #2 You look for his horoscope
Of course, you’re looking for the love part. Does his star match to yours or not, or does Venus coming into orbit around his star sign anytime soon? You want to know if love is on the cards for him, is your star implicated in some way? Although you know nothing much you can hope from the zodiac sign, at least some of the match between the two of you will make you feeling more comfortable. There’s still a chance, right?
LOVE #3 All his jokes become funny to you
You laugh if he laughs: No matter whether his story funny or not, you still laugh as long as you can see smiles on his face. He really can do no wrong. Even his most moronic, tasteless one-liners about faeces and flatulence seem to be the wittiest gags you’ve ever heard. What do you think girls? Sssshhhh….just keep these between the two of you okay, maybe no one else is likely to appreciate them. Haaahhaa..
LOVE #4 You take a very long time to write him an SMS/email
You over worried if your words may hurt his feelings and you want to make sure you get that casual, off-hand tone just right. No mistakes and you want the best words reaching him – whether you should put smiley or not – so much things to consider, no wonder you’re having trouble sleeping.
LOVE #5 You felt weird if you didn’t see or talk to him for a long time
Whether you realize it or not, you getting nerves to have conversation with him after a long weekends. You getting blur sometimes looking for words to say. All in your mind is hope to spend more time with him and looking for other chances to plans something for both of you. So, now times is very important to you.
LOVE #6 You become jealous for no reason
You hate every girl who talks to him. Even when the cashier at the bookstore gave him a cheeky smile, you call her sluts. What’s wrong girl? Ermmm…more than that, you can’t stand up to when other girls ask him to watch a movie. Grrrrrgh…well, why are your get jealous?
LOVE #7 You losing your appetite when he didn’t reply your SMS/call
The whole day and night you think why he didn’t replied you. So many though on your mind, and all of them mostly about bad things: What did I do wrong? Or, Did he angry with me? You can’t think logically because you’re too worried and feeling edgy so everything getting musky. It is not because you don’t have an appetite but because your mind can’t think about other thing except wondering why he didn’t call you back.
LOVE #8 You goggle him
You try every way to find any information about him to know more about him. Surf an internet looking for his name - and lucky you if you can find something about him. Hopefully his name as famous as Donald Trump so easier for you to find anything remotely related to your man online . Failing which, you log on to the website of the company he works for – it’s better than nothing, right?
LOVE #9 No one else can rock your boat anymore
Either Leonardo Dicaprio or Orlando Bloom, both can’t attract your interest anymore. Did you grown up girl? Or your heart just stolen by someone else; one beautiful ordinary people that make your life rockin’ everyday.
LOVE #10 Girlfriends is not your priority
No more Friday night or girl’s weekend anymore. All you do is sitting down at home waiting for his call to bring you out. You just want to make sure when he’s call, you’re free and ready to have a date any time, so just for him you turn down your gal pal’s invitation for some girlie time together. Well, hopefully he calls you. And why don’t you call him? Hahaaa…
LOVE #11 Your body is a prime concern
You start take care of your weight, your body curve, and your cup size, don’t you? You heard that men are attracted to sexy women especially the one with great body and nice breast? What do you think girl? Research says that men like breast because it soft, comforting, curvy, erotic. It symbolizes everything female. So, what’s wrong with you wanting to be as female as possible?
LOVE #12 You worry about your mobile phone reception
You try to avoid go to places where your phone can’t be reach. Every way you go, you check your phone to make sure there is at least one receptionist bar. Afraid that you will miss his call, the call you’ve been waiting for all the time.
LOVE #13 You suddenly interested with football
What’s EPL? Maybe before this you never care what it is, but not now. You start to find something more about this: start turning to the back page of the newspapers and watching sports news to see what’s going on in the English Premier League and it’s not just because David Beckham.
LOVE #14 You start learn how to cook
Every woman that fall in love, always shows their interest in cooking. Who know, you might need to cook something up for a visiting guest…an important visiting guest. So, you can show him you have ability to have a family – good mother and perfect wife.
LOVE #15 You read articles like this one in my blog
If you looking for articles like this and eager to read it, means that you already suspect you might be in love. You need an expert doctor to help you diagnosis what actually happen to you. Well, now you know what’s your feeling tell you don’t wait any longer. Chase for your dream guy while it’s not too late.
LOVE #16 You start dreaming to have baby with him
Haaahhaha…no wonder lately you really like baby. Only women in love and ready to have a family and future will have a feeling to have their own baby and of course with their love one.
LOVE #17 Romantic comedies always been your first choices
You conquer all romantic comedy dramas on TV, buy new romantic DVD’s and go watching romantic movies alone because all your friends already know it must be romantic movies again and they don’t want to miss their chances to watch another type of movie again and again. Not enough with that, you looking for old DVD’s which more dramatics and romantic as long as it has a happy lovely ending and you don’t care watching it for many times.
LOVE #18 You always grab any opportunities to take a photo with him
Any moment, or at any occasions – at parties, shopping malls or a dinner, you always trying to find an excuse to get into a shot with him…alone. And if there’s no camera, well, a camera phone will do just as nicely – as long as you got his pictures standing besides you.
LOVE #19 You won’t go anyway during weekends
Everyone start to plan their weekends but you wonder what you’re going to do. Of course, you think about to spend some times with him. You even couldn’t sleep on lazy Sundays because you’re too worry he’s going to call you or not. It seems like you waiting for some Christmas gift from Santa. Don’t you?
LOVE #20 You doodle his name all over
When you hold a pen and paper, your hand unconsciously doodle his name, sometimes with little floating hearts around it. And is that your name that you’re doodling beside his? Any doctor will take this as a sure-fire symptom of love sickness.
LOVE #21 Shopping times…and end up in the men’s aisle
While you shop for your lipstick, suddenly your head turn to men’s section – and you automatically work towards to the sections and start checking out for tie, t-shirt, cap and other men accessories. Before long, you’re trying to match his outfits to yours.
LOVE #22 You become defender to him
When you have conversation with your friends and he’s not around, you bring his name to become a main topic. And when anyone of your friends put him down, you jump to his defence. Obviously, he’s important to you and only good things you want to hear about him.
LOVE #23 His become your idol
You admire him more than anyone else: his styles, how he talks to others and the way him playing guitar. You want to intimate everything about him – music, movies, clothes, food, sports…and whatever you can see from him. He likes a movie star to you and everything about him is special. If he like plays a piano, so you try to take lessons especially from him. You felt happy when you can involve in something he likes.
LOVE #24 You become a romantic person
From the words you wrote to the way you talk to him, there’s sign of flirting. And of course you try to cover so it doesn’t look too obvious but deep inside you heart you hope that he’s been able to read between the lines. Don’t worry girl, be frank and he will see how deep is your love.
LOVE #25 His little sister makes your jealous
Well, something really serious happen here. How come? If this is not enough of a clue that you’re in love, what is? Take your time, if you have more than half of the clues, follow your heart and act before he pounce by another women.

goodness...

Recently, my dad (and mom) have been talking to me about what kind of guy I should be looking for...not that its the first time or anything. I think we've had those kind of talks when I started college. Anyway, the guidelines as to what kind of guy I should be with has become clearer through the years.

Here goes...My partner has to BE:
  1. Filipino-Chinese(this is a definite MUST)
  2. has a good family background
  3. people in his family are nice
  4. still in touch with traditional Chinese values
  5. understanding, someone who won't try to control me, someone I can trust
  6. willing to have my parents(particularly my mom) live with us after we get married..(my dad said this)
  7. preferably older (my addition...hehe)

Well, thats about it...I think. haha I can't really remember everything he said. Oh, but he did say not to marry someone too rich. Baka mahirapan daw ako. hehe Money doesn't really matter. I wouldn't like a guy just because he's rich or reject someone coz he's not financially stable. Money matters are just something that is easily solved.

Oh, and number 6, is probably just a joke. haha Ayaw ko rin no! hahaha joke lang, Ma.

I'm not really looking or anything. Although, I admit, it would be nice if there was someone by my side that cares about me, someone that would listen to me when I'm down, someone who would be attentive, someone that would just be there, period.

I have friends for that, but I don't know, I think it's just me when I say that I'd like someone more permanent. I have different groups of friends, ones from grade school, high school, college, org mates, BLIA YAD, tour mates, etc. and I feel that it would be nice to have one person that understands everything that is going on in your life, or rather someone that would just be there at the right moment.

Nymph Quiz

Took the nymph quiz thingie on the Black Snake Moan website. haha

The answer is obvious even without taking the test anyway... :D

Little Miss Sunshine

Watched "Little Miss Sunshine" yesterday...The movie is so cute and funny!

I loved the last part...the scene where the contestants of the "Little Miss Sunshine" pageant were being introduced. Olive stuck out like a sore thumb since the other girls were all made up and over-dressed in a way similar to a Barbie doll, while she was dressed simply and her hair was just in a ponytail. For me, it's a movie about the self-esteem of a girl, even when she is not as pretty or rich or talented as the other girls. Olive still went on with her performance even when her family was already telling her to back out after her dad saw how good the other contestans were. Not only that, it was just about the "coming-together" of a family. Like a meeting of the minds. The family seemed close in the beginning, but they somehow didn't really connect. They only realized that the true meaning of a family in the end.

Guy Rules

Got this in my email...made me laugh...HARD. hahaha

The Guys' Rules
At last a guy has taken the time to write this all down
Finally , the guys' side of the story.

( i must admit, it's pretty good.)
We always hear
" the rules "
From the female side.

Now here are the rules from the male side.
These are our rules!
Please note.. these are all numbered "1"ON PURPOSE!
1. Men are NOT mind readers.

1. Learn to work the toilet seat.
You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down.
We need it up, you need it down.
You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

1. Sunday sports It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be.

1. Shopping is NOT a sport. And no, we are never going to think of it that way.

1. Crying is blackmail.

1. Ask for what you want.
Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work!
Strong hints do not work!
Obvious hints do not work!
Just say it!

1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.

1. Come to us with a problem
only if you want help solving it. That's what we do.
Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a
Problem.
See a doctor.

1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument.
In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 Days.

1. If you won't dress like the Victoria's Secret girls, don't Expect us to act like soap opera guys.

1. If you think you're fat, you probably are. Don't ask us.

1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one

1. You can either ask us to do something or tell us how you want it done.
Not both. If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.

1. Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials.

1. Christopher Columbus did NOT need direc tions and neither do we.

1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings.
Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.

1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," We will act like nothing's wrong. We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.

1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, Expect an answer you don't want to hear.

1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine...
Really .

1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as baseball, the shotgun formation, the rutt or golf.

1. You have enough clothes.

1. You have too many shoes.

1. I am in shape. Round IS a shape!

Mi Valentino

I was reading Candee's journal entry(for school) yesterday. The topic was about three guys she would choose to be her Valentine. I had to write a similar entry when I was in first year. I can't remember who I wrote, but I remember writing the guys that sat around me in class. haha

Anyway, if I were to write the list again,. The list would compose of:
1)S____-because he's always so quiet, and he's enveloped in an aura of mystery. And I'd really want to get to know him better.

2)M_____- because we really connect and our minds are on the same wavelength. We talk about anything under the sun, without any inhibitons or anything. We're pretty much open about our thoughts, feelings, etc. He's the only one I can annoy without him getting mad. haha That goes vice versa. He's the only one that I can take a criticism from without wanting to get back.

3)another M____- primarily because, its been ages since we really talked to each other. He's silent and a great listener...a great person to go to when I have problems or anything that upset me.

____
soundtrip: Listening to Nelly Furtado's new album. It's pretty good. Sounds a bit like Madonna though.

I also learned a new chinese saying courtesy of Bai Lao Shr. It goes 两情若是久长时,又岂在朝朝暮暮. I means that if two people really like each other, it doesn't really matter where they are or far apart they are.

On Life...and Death

I know this is kind of a morbid way to start your day. But I found this article on the net, and it was interesting. Otherwise, I wouldn't post it anyway...haha Well, I never thought about death really. I knew I was afraid of it...but it just never dawned on me what Death really is.

On Life: the Way of Birth and Death

The Buddhist scriptures divide death into four main types: 1) death due to age, 2) death due to the exhaustion of blessings, 3) death due to accident, and 4) death beyond the cycle of birth and death. Death is neither extinction nor slumber. It is not like the dispersal of ashes and smoke, nor is it without feelings or consciousness. It is an exit from one world and an entrance to another, the transmigration from one world into another. Through death, people may ascend to a bright spiritual world. It is for this reason that many positive metaphors are applied to death in the Buddhist scriptures.

For example:

1) Death is like release from jail. According to the Treatise on the Perfection of Great Wisdom, ¡§The sufferings are like hell.¡¨ Bodily existence, the suffering of so many afflictions, can be likened to being imprisoned. Death is like being freed from jail. One will be free and no longer subject to any restraints.
2) Death is like being reborn. Death is a new beginning, not an end. The Sutra Requested by Visesacinta Brahma Deva [Visesacintabrahmapariprccha Sutra] remarks, ¡§It is like oil being extracted from sesame seeds or butter being churned from milk.¡¨
3) Death is like graduation. The Great Nirvana Sutra [Parinirvana Sutra] states, ¡§The teachings passed down eliminate all sorts of ignorance, making a success of study.¡¨ Life is analogous to going to school, and death is graduation. One¡¦s grades and performance in the past influence one¡¦s rebirth.
4) Death is like moving. Every living thing is subject to death. Death is nothing more than moving the body out of this broken-down, old, and corrupt house and returning to one¡¦s profound and pervasive spiritual home. As the Sutra of Illuminating Light describes it, ¡§The deer returns to the wilds and the bird to the skies; doctrines are realized and the enlightened enters nirvana.¡¨
5) Death is like changing clothes. Death is like removing old worn-out garments and putting on new ones. As the Lankavatara Sutra tells us, ¡§Even as vast as the world of ten directions, in the mind of the Tathagata, it is no more than a small cloud in the boundless sky.¡¨ Life in this world of dust and all its experiences are like clouds passing before the eyes. It all amounts to nothing more than a garment.
6) Death is like the new replacing the old. The new is always replacing the old in our bodies. Only after old cells die do new ones replace them. The Gradual Discourses of the Buddha states, ¡§Superseding makes change easy; there is no end or dissolution.¡¨ Samsara is like new cells replacing old ones. The fact that the old is always being replaced by the new makes life all the more precious.
Buddhism often calls death ¡§rebirth¡¨; it is like going on a trip or moving. This being the case, is not death also a joyful event? Therefore, death is a transformational stage, when one life is reborn in another life. For this reason, death is not something to be feared. One must be calm in the face of death and let nature take its course.
People fear death because life can be conceptualized, but death cannot. That is why the end of life seems so sad. Actually, life is like water in a cup. When the cup is broken, it is broken. The water runs over the table and onto the ground, but it can be sponged up and put into another cup. Although the cup is broken, the water of life is not diminished by as much as even one drop.
